Skelfhill Pen from Old Northouse Walking & Running Loop Route

Skelfhill Pen is an iconic hill to the south-west of Hawick

A circular walk from Old Northouse Picnic Area Carpark, climbs along forestry roads and onto grassland through firebreak in trees, Skelfhill Pen is presented in front of you. A short scramble to the summit reveals outstanding views of some of the highest hills in the area including Greatmoor, Cauldcleuch Head and Skelfhill Fell. Also views of The Theives road, travelled by the Border Reivers of old.

On the way back to the car, you are gifted by spectacular panoramic views of the Borderland hills, from Ruberslaw round to the Eildons, the hills of the Northumberland National Park and Lake District.

Warning: Can we remind you to respect farmers who have livestock in these areas, particularly during the spring when there are newborn lambs and calves. Please ensure all gates are properly closed behind you and that all dogs are kept on a lead.
